介系詞 to + 動名詞

不定詞的形式是 『to + 動詞原式』，但是某些特殊的動詞、形容詞與名詞習慣性後面跟著介系詞 to 形成一種慣用語，這時候 to 後面就不能用動詞原式，必須使用動名詞。

動詞 + 介系詞 to + 動名詞

由『動詞 + 介系詞 to』 所形成的片語動詞是一種慣用語， to 後面要用動名詞(或是名詞)。

• 我想沒有人會反對提早離開。

Be + 形容詞 + 介系詞 to + 動名詞

某些形容詞(通常是過去分詞當形容詞使用) 與後面的介系詞 to 緊密結合，形成「慣用語」，幾乎可以當做一個字來看待， to 後面要用動名詞(或是名詞)。

• 這國會議員反對增稅。
• The congressman was opposed to increase taxes.
• The congressman was opposed to increasing taxes.

• 他大部分的空閒時間專心於編目他的郵票收藏。
• Much of his spare time was devoted to catalog his stamp collection.
