情態副詞 (Adverbs of Manners)

情態副詞是用來說明動作發生時的情形或狀態,所以情態副詞一般是用來修飾「動詞」。

Andy did the work carefully.

Andy 小心翼翼做了這件事。

Judy did the work carelessly.

Judy 漫不經心做了這件事


情態副詞 carefully 與 carelessly 用來修飾動詞 "did",它們是由形容詞 careful 與 careless 加 -ly 而變成副詞。

The student politely asked the speaker a question.

學生很有禮貌地問了講者一個問題。

情態副詞 politely 用來修飾動詞 "asked ",它是由形容詞 polite (有禮貌的)加 -ly 而變成副詞。

「情態副詞」和「形容詞」之間的密切關係

情態副詞通常是由形容詞加 -ly 演變而來,用以修飾動詞,說明「如何」。

情態副詞經常被副詞 very, quite, so, 和 rather 所修飾。

情態副詞如同形容詞般,前面加上 more 或 most 形成比較級與最高級。

Sports careers almost always end more suddenly than planned.
