情態助動詞 must 的用法

表示責任、義務，『必須』的意思

Children must do their homework.

兒童必須要做功課。

I must phone my mom.

我必須打電話給我媽媽。

表示告誡； 命令

You simply must be careful.

你只是須要小心。

You must tell me the truth.

你一定要告訴我真相。

must 的否定是 mustn't

You mustn't open other people's letters.

你不能打開別人的信。

mustn't - "不允許"。

There's no school tomorrow; I needn't do homework today.

明天不用上學;今天我不需要做功課。

讀者應該區別 mustn't 和 needn't 的不同用法。mustn't 指的是不允許或有必要不那麼做。 needn't 是沒有必要去做，但如果我們想要，也可以去做。

must 的猜測用法。

Listen! It must be raining outside.

你聽，外面一定在下雨。

使用must ，是一種很有把握的猜測語氣。

你一定是在開玩笑吧。

也可以用 you have got to be kidding me. 來表達。
have got to = must，本句 you have got to be kidding me. 是現在式。

must have 與 can't have 後面跟著過去分詞

基於我們過去的經驗和目前所得到的訊息或證據，我們使用情態動詞 "must have" 或 "can't have"來猜測或推斷事情會發生與否。肯定句用 “must have” 來表示我們認為「肯定發生了」的事情。否定句用“can't have” 來表示我們認為「絕對不會發生」的事情。

Those are amazing and must have taken a long time to make.

這些太棒了，肯定花了很長時間才做出來。

使用 must have + 過去分詞(taken)，我們推斷它肯定花了很長的時間才做出來。

That pizza was gigantic. I'm sure Nacy can't have eaten it all.

那個披薩很大。 我敢肯定 Nacy 不可能把它全吃光。

使用 can't have + 過去分詞(eaten)，我們推斷Nacy 「不可能」把它全部吃光。
