第三類條件句是指與過去事實不相符的假設條件；假想過去要是如何的話(事實上並沒有發生) ，現在就有什麼樣的結果。
If I had studied hard, I would have passed the exams.
如果我在過去有努力學習，我就會已經通過考試了。
過去的事 "had studied hard" 並沒有發生，考試當然沒過。有懊悔的意思。
If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn't have missed the plane.
如果我們搭計程車，我們就不會錯過了飛機。
第三類條件句的主要子句的情態助動詞也可以用否定形態： wouldn't = would not。
She would have been on time if she had left at 7.
如果她七點離開，她就會準時的。
If you hadn't seen it, you probably wouldn't have believed it.
如果你沒有看到它，你可能不會相信。
If we had started earlier, we _______ the deadline.

如果我們早一點開始做，我們會在最後期限之前完成。
